Well, I got a little ahead of myself....AGAIN! But, looking on the bright side, it could be worse. I could have too much time and no plants!
First, I got motivated and dug up 15 more Agave scabra pups to plant along a rock wall on the way to the creek. So far I've gotten 10 holes dug and 9 in the ground! The rest are waiting patiently for me to resume my project.
But hold on because I got this in the mail!

Sixty "Walk on Me" (Thymus serpyllum) dormant roots.
Don't be shocked if you've never ordered anything
dormant before! There are probably 6 roots in each little package and
yes they're a tangled mess. But they are cheap and so far I've had pretty
good luck planting dormant stuff in the fall! Its just the wait until spring that takes faith.

"Walk on Me" is also known as "Wild Thyme" or "Creeping Thyme" and is supposed to be an evergreen ground cover that spreads pretty rapidly, blooms in spring, smells good when crushed, only gets 3-inches tall and loves full sun and drought-like conditions in rocky soil.
Sounds almost too perfect a solution for our hillside that is beautiful green half the time and the other half looks completely dead. With the drought it has pretty much been looking dead!
See what I mean! All the dry native grasses really take away from the green trees and the creek below. If the "Walk on Me" really does what the catalog said then it will be absolutely gorgeous on this slope!
I ordered the 60 thinking I could handle that much to start....turns out I can't even handle that, because I've only gotten a third of them in the ground and its been 2 weeks!
Meanwhile, when we were at Sunshine Nursery getting vegetable seeds and plants, I couldn't resist a couple of Salvia, some Society Garlic and these purple and some half peach/half purple flowers that I can't for the life of me remember the name....
On top of that, I've been wanting to replace the Pride of Barbados that I lost in a freeze several years ago. I saw some at Home Depot the other day, but they wanted $16.95 for the small ones. But one day I was on Craigslist and stumbled across a lady selling handfuls of Pride of Barbados seeds for 5 bucks. And I figured why not!
And they arrived in the mail too!

Eventhough I managed to pass up the Pride of Barbados while at Home Depot, I still caved and bought a Fire Bush (Hummingbird Bush). It had a bunch of babies in the pot, so I separated them out. The "big" one (all of 10") I actually managed to get in the ground.
So, the ground has pretty much dried up after our near 3" of rain last week. (Yay!) We had actual plans for the weekend (that didn't involve work), and now I'm off to enjoy some of this amazing fall weather and get some of this stuff in the ground!
